Culturally Competent Care: Communicating Across Cultural Boundaries Training

As demographics in Massachusetts communities change, health care and human service providers must deliver care within and beyond cultural boundaries, learning to communicate effectively with clients or co-workers whose cultures may differ dramatically from their own. Adapted from an evidence-based curriculum recommended by the CDC for replication, Culturally Competent Care: Communicating Across Cultural Boundaries training programs present a foundation for culturally responsive services and care. The 90-minute initial session defines culture and cultural competency; explains how health disparities have stimulated increasing regulatory requirements for cultural competency; discusses barriers to effective cross-cultural interactions; and identifies tools and resources to improve cross-cultural care and reduce health disparities. Nursing CEU’s and resource handout packets are included.
