Funding Mini-Grants to Create Healthy Communities

 

One-time grants are available for $500. up to $2,500.  to serve one or more communities within the CHNA 20 - Blue Hills Community Health Alliance area.

A total of approximately $15,000 will be awarded.

Applications must be received by Thursday, October 15, 2009 at 1:00 PM. 

Award announcements will be made by November 12, 2009.  Funded projects must be completed no later than June 30, 2010.

Beyond the Classroom, Nurses Helping Students with Bullying”

BRAINTREE PUBLIC SCHOOLS

Purchase age appropriate literature books on bullying and teasing to be utilized by children in Kindergarten through Grade 5 at 6 public schools and one private elementary nurse’s office.

THE CHILDREN’S MELANOMA PREVENTION

To teach children about skin cancer prevention & protective behaviors, early detection, as well as the risks of overexposure to UV rays and personal risk of sun damage.

Address concerns regarding the growing number of children coming to school without breakfast.  Establish a breakfast program (snack & a drink) for those coming to school hungry and researching why this is happening.

QUINCY ASIAN RESOURCE– A youth program consisting of 12 high school students to promote leadership and career awareness among Asian teens.  Focus on recent immigrant youths and ways to engage them in workshops, volunteer opportunities, college planning, diverse career choices, leadership skills & community service.

QUINCY BEACHES & COASTAL COMMISSION

Purchase swim area markers for 13 community beaches: to increase safety for swimmers, provide a safe and welcome area for exercise and improve public awareness about the usability of Quincy’s community beaches.

Finding Hope for Children “Mobile Office”

QUINCY MEDICAL CENTER”Easier access to services and enable staff to become mobile and provide access to lower income, higher risk families.  A “Play Therapy Cart” filled with toys & games to enable therapy in the most accessible language for children’s play.

Youth to Youth: Strengthening Respectful Community

SHARON – INTERFAITH ACTION, INC.

High school students are trained to facilitate ten elective classes to 5th grade students at the Cottage Street School and one pilot program at the Heights Elementary School.  The classes encourage building friendships across differences and breaking down stereotypes.
