Blue Hills CHNA Awarded Grants Summary 2007- 2008

 

Project: Child Abuse Prevention and Resource Library

Organization: Children's Advocacy Center of Canton - Norfolk County

Description: Grant funds will be used to establish a lending library with resource books for professionals and informational/workbooks for children and parents on a range of child abuse topics, including prevention, investigation and healing.

Amount: $1,050.00

Project: Did You Know? Bookcovers

Organization: Weymouth Youth Coalition  Weymouth

Description: A laminated book cover for middle school children with the 'Did you know?' logo. Another design will be added by the teen advisory group.

Project: Fostering Good Health at an Early Age

Organization: Milton Early Childhood Milton

Description: This project will encompass two diffenent ways of reaching Milton Families with young children with information and activities that promote healthy living - our biennial children's learning fair and our welcome baby baskets

Project: Girls Night Out for Prenatal Health

Organization: Operation Frontline Quincy

Description: Quincy WIC Program and Manet Community Health Center will partner with The Get Fit Solution and Operation Frontline to offer a 6-week prenatal program targeting 20 low income prenatal women. The overall goal of the program is to reduce low birthweight and improve the overall birth outcome of 20 newborn babies

Project: Identifying and Implementing Stress Management Strategy for Family Caregivers

Organization: South Shore Caregiving Collaborative & SSES Braintree

Description: The program will focus on teaching family caregivers of the elderly, strategies for self-care and stress management techniques.

Description: Groups offer training and therapeutic experiences that can foster the healing process.

Project: Substance Abuse Prevention Program

Organization: Quincy Public Schools & Caron Quincy Treatment

Description: Quincy Public Schools in collaboration with Caron Treatment Centers will provide a substance abuse prevention program at the elementary and high school levels.

Project: The Breakfast Club Goes Frontline

Organization: Manet Community Health Center North Quincy

Description: Over 20 million children and adults have diabetes and 54 million people are pre-diabetic. The number one concern for diabetes patients and community residents who participate in Manet Community Health Center's monthly Breakfast Club support group is nutrition and what to eat. To address this concern, Sharing Our Strength - Operation Frontline's interactive nutritional educational program will be brought to two South Shore communities that are high risk for complications from diabetes due to poor nutrition.
